Everyone loves a good before and after, and we are no exception! We had so much fun participating in the renovation of this Heritage home in Fredericton, NB with a pair of wonderful homeowners, Steve and Carla Bleakney. What started out as your typical mid century original kitchen, transforms into a beautiful modern living space. By opening up the wall between the adjacent room and kitchen, the homeowners were able to create an exciting open concept area.
Check out the before photos here:
Our designer sat down with the couple to go over design ideas and talk about options to open up the space and prepare for a complete modern overhaul. In a one to two hour session, all designs and quotes are down on paper, so the homeowners are able to have an excellent idea of how their new kitchen will look. In this case, the homeowner had great ideas that she wanted to incorporate into the new room.

Next step was the reno! If needed, we are happy to recommend reputable contractors in your area to help you prepare for your new kitchen. In some cases, you may decide to open up your walls to create an open concept, as in the photos below, or you may just need your existing cabinets removed.
The Big Reveal. Now for the fun part. Let’s take a look at the brand new kitchen that gives a lovely older home a whole new dimension.
Here’s another shot to show you how the room was opened up:
Check out this functional slide-out heat resistant cutting board:

The best part of this cutting board? It is removable so you can carry it with you to hold your hot pots next to the stove, or cut vegetables in any convenient location:

We added in a stainless two-drawer Fisher and Paykel Dishwasher. The beauty of this appliance, in addition to looking sleek and modern, is that you are able to run each drawer separately, or in conjunction with one and other. Have a small load of breakfast dishes that you want taken care of? Load them into the small door and press start.

A space saving corner area that is perfect for storing mid sized appliances:

Hi Tech Metal Pull-Out Drawers and a vertical pantry give you plenty of space for non-perishable goods, cereal boxes, and baking supplies:

We want to give a big thanks to Steve & Carla Bleakney for choosing Avondale to participate in their exciting renovation!
