Today we are taking you back to Saint John, NB, to the home of Peter & Lynne Murphy. We will call this 1963 bungalow “the home of a thousand doors”. In the kitchen alone, the homeowners started out with three doors; dining room door, basement door and hallway door. To make the space feel more open, Peter & Lynne had already removed two of the doors, and the remaining third door was removed with Jim’s new kitchen plan. A big change before the kitchen renovation even started!
Let’s jump right into the kitchen before and after shots.
Take note of the refrigerator placement. When designing the new lay out, you will appreciate the relocation to open up the space:
Our designer, Jim, sat down with the homeowners to come up with a more functional kitchen design, by moving the refrigerator to the right side of the kitchen, more usable counter space is implemented, and the room feels more open:
Pantry and refrigerator are grouped together along the wall to keep a good flow and implement extra storage:
Here is another before shot, standing to the right of the original fridge, and looking in towards the stove wall:
And now the after with enclosed fridge:
Lynne wanted lots of display space for her dishes, so an unused portion of the kitchen was perfect for a display unit. Here is where we started:
Designs for the new unit:
And the beautiful new china cabinet. Take note how much more spacious the room looks by removing hallway door from frame:
A two drawer integrated Fisher & Paykel dish drawer keeps the appliance hidden, and a streamlined lower cabinet silhouette:
Large pots and pans drawers hold plenty of cookware:
A flip up toaster garage keeps frequently used kitchen items neat and tidy while not in use:
Thank you to Lynne & Peter for choosing Avondale Kitchens for your kitchen renovation!
