Welcome to the home of Don & Elaine Brown, of Rothesay N.B! We will take you from designs to installation of their natural cherry cabinets.
First the homeowners sat down with Jim, Avondale’s professional designer, for a two hour no-charge at home design session to discuss the renovations. By the end of the meeting, all measurements were taken, budget and quotes were firmed up, and hand drawings were complete. Here is a look at the designs for the new kitchen:
Let’s take a look at the before shot of the kitchen:
In the after shot, the bulk head is removed, and the window is taken down to the counter to provide more light. All lowers on the right hand side are now drawers, and a large pantry is added to the right of the stove.
Another before shot, the small window made the room appear darker and enclosed:
A larger window is installed creating a bright and open atmosphere. Usable cabinets to the left of the window tie in with the rest of the kitchen cabinets:
Here’s a look at the cabinets to the left of the window, towards the stairs. The perfect little broom closet:
Back in the main kitchen area, the pull out pantry shelves hold all dried goods and accessories with ease:
A corner appliance garage is the perfect home the a heavy Kitchen Aid mixer, eliminating the need to lift and carry:
By swapping out doors for drawers, pots and pans are easily accessible and there is no more digging through cabinets on hands and knees:
And finally, as with all new Avondale kitchens, a cutlery insert to keep your cutlery drawer organized!
Thank you to Don and Elaine for choosing Avondale for your kitchen makeover! It was our pleasure to work with you!

Thank you to Sean & Lois Gorman, Saint John NB, for choosing Avondale Kitchens to help with their kitchen renovation! The Gorman family gave themselves an early Christmas gift when their kitchen arrived a few days before Christmas, making the holidays even more exciting!
Jim, our Avondale Kitchens professional designer stopped in for an at-home no-charge design to start the project off. In two hours, measurements are taken, designs are produced, renovation details laid out, and quotes generated.
Here’s a look at the kitchen towards the living room before renovations:
Jim and the homeowners worked together to come up with a design that would work better in the space, opening up a bit more between the kitchen and living room:
Clover Valley Construction worked hard to prepare the space for the new cabinets, and complete all renovation details:
With the wall moved back, there is now plenty of space for a large island to bridge the two rooms:
Next, take a look at the view towards the original dining area:
Renovators stripped everything to prepare the new space:
And now the after! The dining table has extended towards the living space, and extra seating at the new island.

Today we have a beautiful kitchen makeover coming to you from the heart of St. Andrews NB, at the residence of Bob and Janet Charlton.
This historical home, built in 1912, was designed by Sir Edward Maxwell, chief architect for Sir William Van Horne, the president CP Rail Road. You may recognize Van Horne below, in the photo of the driving of the last spike. Van Horne resided on Minister’s Island, which has since become a popular tourist destination in St. Andrews. The home of Sir Edward Maxwell, the architect, was located along the beach facing Minister’s Island.
The main house where the Charlton’s currently reside, was originally a carriage house for another home four blocks away. In 1963 the carriage house was moved to this site, with two wings being added; The first in the winter of 1971 and the 2nd wing in the winter of 1972.
With these interesting pieces of history in our minds, we can now take take a look at the kitchen renovations.
The homeowners sat down with Jim, our designer, to work out a plan for the reno. Details and plans were drawn up in the design meeting, and the project came to life!
Before the reno, French doors separated the kitchen and the dining room, for two distinct areas. By opening up the wall, a beautiful open concept kitchen space is created, with plenty of space to add a large island:
Here is the view looking towards the hall and pantry. The closet with bi-fold doors is replaced with a spacious walk-in corner pantry, and the wall is opened up and brought back to the start of the pantry.
Here is the shot looking back towards the stove, before & after. The table is replaced by an island, increasing counter space, and storage, while maintaining in-kitchen seating space.
The new island is equipped with large heavy duty drawers to hold all pots and pans. Full extension creates instant visibility for all items in the drawer.
A built in toaster garage on the counter is perfect for keeping small, frequently used appliances within reach, yet enclosed when not in use:
And finally, a custom corner pantry is an accessible option for storing all dried goods:
A big thank you to Bob & Janet who allowed us to be part of your stunning kitchen renovation!

Welcome to the beautiful home of Jon Abrahams & Lorraine Forbes, in Rothesay, NB. The home was originally built in 1873 Harry Gilbert, and named the Lewin House, after former resident J.D. Pollard Lewin. According to the Rothesay Historic Places Initiative, “The staircase is the most interesting architectural feature internally. The steps are fairly shallow, as they were designed for children. During construction, the builders were told to approximate the height of each stair, and as a result they are not uniform in size. It is small details like these that make the house unique among the heritage homes in Rothesay.”
Jon and Loarraine were ready to update their kitchen, so they wasted no time in calling Avondale in for professional, at your home, designs. In a couple of hours, designs were made, quotes were complete, and a full renovation budget was laid out. Avondale took care of the cabinets, while Clover Valley Construction handled the renovation aspect of the project.
Here we can see the hand drawings that Jim, our Professional Designer, laid out for the kitchen:
Clover Valley Construction arrived to work on the reno, and get the space ready for the new cabinets. As always, they are a pleasure to work with, and keep the renovation running smoothly for the homeowners.
Now we can take a look at the before and after shots!
The layout in the original shows the stove tucked into a cubby, with a large bulk head above cabinets. The refrigerator sits alone with no enclosing cabinets.
In the new layout, the stove now feels like part of the kitchen, the refrigerator moved, and cabinets built to surround the appliance and give extra storage. Cabinets are brought to the ceiling creating a beautiful and well lit area with glass uppers and LED lights. The small extension to the right of the stove creates space for an extra bank of drawers as well as a small over hang on the back for two stools, effectively creating extra in-kitchen seating.
Here is the other before view. Take note of the division of this room and the next.
The room has been opened up to create much more kitchen space! The room now flows seamlessly into the dining area for an open and luxurious feel:
As a special feature of an Avondale Kitchen, the two bowl sink is undermounted into the seamless laminate counters. Because all counters are built at our factory, beautiful details can be added, such as cuts in, and shapes, to allow for extra details, like corbels and pillars. These features are generally only accessible with granite and quartz counters.
Everything has a spot, with included cutlery dividers and spice rack pull outs:
Custom pantries create lots of space for all dried goods, with roll outs to make everything easily accessible:
As we move into the dining area, there’s a bit of a surprise! Can you guess what’s behind these doors?
The laundry area! How perfect right? The doors open and tuck back in out of the way while laundry is being done. The cabinets above allow plenty of space for all laundry products.
Thank you to Jon & Lorraine, for allowing Avondale to be part of your historic makeover! It was a real pleasure to work with you.

When you start thinking of renovating your kitchen, the question “how much is this going to cost?!” pops up first. While all of our kitchens are custom made, meaning pricing can vary from job to job, on average, our kitchens, including renovation budgets, range from about $20,000.00-$25,000.00. Of course depending on size and materials. Larger kitchens can cost more and smaller kitchens less. The amount of renovations required should also be kept in mind. The project budgets shown on the next pages, prices include designs, cabinets, installation, cabinetry, handles/knobs, glass doors, LED lights, undermounted sinks, seamless laminate counters, high end taps, crown molding, soft close doors, and HST. The renovation estimates are also included, which are paid separately to a contractor or carpenter.
Today we will show you the pricing on an average sized kitchen. Keep in mind, that these numbers can be worked around by tweaking designs and sizing.
When Jim, our professional designer, arrives on site, he will take measurements, do up hand drawings of the new designs, and run pricing.
Below is the pricing sheet for today’s kitchen, followed by the typed up quotes, with sections broken down. In the second photo, you can see the deposit amounts (50%), which are required in order to move the file to the CAD department. The next portion is due on the day of delivery. Odds and ends are completed on a return trip, if necessary. All prices include taxes and delivery.
The next photo is the measurement page, to give reference to the size of the room:
Let’s take a look at the before shots, designs, and after photos. Then we will get into the full process from start to finish, of an Avondale kitchen production.
Before the renovation, the kitchen was original to the home built in 1983, with cord wood walls, a bulk head and plywood oak cabinets:
The proposed designs move the refrigerator closer to the end wall, create an opening between living room and kitchen, and drywall over the cord wood to create a fresh and open space:
Here is the after from this angle:
The next photo shows the before view, standing near the patio door, and looking back towards the living room. Notice the stove and refrigerator placement, with drawers to the right of the stove difficult to access:
In the designs, the stove will be moved to the corner, and the area where the current fridge sits will be a cut out into the living room:
In the after shot, you can see the corner stove, and the built in fridge enclosure with pantries attached. The opening towards the living room gives the illusion of open concept living:
Another trio of before, designs, after:
Looking in from the the living room before and after:
The kitchen is now equipped with lots of deep drawers for storage:
Even the fridge is excited about this renovation:
The walk in corner pantry holds all of the dried goods, and it’s a great hide and seek spot!:
The custom sized toaster garage is perfect for hiding all of the every day kitchen items while keeping them accessible:
The pets supervised the install to make sure the guys were on their toes, and getting everything right:
Now, let’s jump into the process and take a look at how this kitchen was born.
After the initial in home designs, Jim and the homeowner tweaked some areas to perfect the layout:
Once the designs are approved, the project moves on to our CAD department, where the plans are entered into the computer. At this stage, all measurements are exact and the layout can be seen and altered in real sizes:
In the meantime, with the help of Karen, our showroom manager, the homeowner spent some time in the showroom deciding what she liked for finishes including cabinet colour, door styles, handles, countertops, sink and tap. A job that could be overwhelming, but is a fun task with all options on hand at Avondale:
Once CAD and selections are approved, it’s time to move the job onto production!
First stop is the CNC machine. The CAD department sends the designs to the CNC operator, where all of the cabinetry is cut out by the machine:
Once all parts are cut, the items are dispersed to four departments; Counters, Custom, Paint & Assembly:
At the counter department, Dana adds edges, undermounts the sink and laminates the countertops:
Once crowns, pillars, hoods and panels are prepared, they, along with MDF doors, are sent to the paint department where all items are sanded and painted with a two part industrial finish. Once completed, they are placed on racks to dry and sent back to assembly:
The last stop is final assembly. In this department, all boxes are assembled, doors bored, edge banding completed, and the truck loaded for delivery:
On the day of delivery, our installers leave the shop early in the morning to be on site in time for breakfast. They spend the day installing, and by the time they leave, the full kitchen is in place and ready to go! Generally there will be one final trip back to fix up any deficiencies.

Today’s blog post features the home of Avondale’s Office Manager, Janice McBride & husband, Allie McBride of Oakville, NB, just outside of Woodstock. After working with our company for three years, Janice decided it was time for an upgrade.
Our Avondale Kitchen Designer, Jim, visited the home to take a look at the existing cabinets, and drew up some designs for the renovation. Janice and Allie wanted a bright, fresh and welcoming kitchen while maintaining a bit of country charm.
Let’s take a look at the before shots, designs and after photos. Then we will get into the full process from start to finish, of an Avondale kitchen production.

Today we are taking you back to Saint John, NB, to the home of Peter & Lynne Murphy. We will call this 1963 bungalow “the home of a thousand doors”. In the kitchen alone, the homeowners started out with three doors; dining room door, basement door and hallway door. To make the space feel more open, Peter & Lynne had already removed two of the doors, and the remaining third door was removed with Jim’s new kitchen plan. A big change before the kitchen renovation even started!
Let’s jump right into the kitchen before and after shots.
Take note of the refrigerator placement. When designing the new lay out, you will appreciate the relocation to open up the space:
Our designer, Jim, sat down with the homeowners to come up with a more functional kitchen design, by moving the refrigerator to the right side of the kitchen, more usable counter space is implemented, and the room feels more open:
Pantry and refrigerator are grouped together along the wall to keep a good flow and implement extra storage:
Here is another before shot, standing to the right of the original fridge, and looking in towards the stove wall:
And now the after with enclosed fridge:
Lynne wanted lots of display space for her dishes, so an unused portion of the kitchen was perfect for a display unit. Here is where we started:
Designs for the new unit:
And the beautiful new china cabinet. Take note how much more spacious the room looks by removing hallway door from frame:
A two drawer integrated Fisher & Paykel dish drawer keeps the appliance hidden, and a streamlined lower cabinet silhouette:
Large pots and pans drawers hold plenty of cookware:
A flip up toaster garage keeps frequently used kitchen items neat and tidy while not in use:
Thank you to Lynne & Peter for choosing Avondale Kitchens for your kitchen renovation!

Today’s kitchen makeover comes from the home of Bob and Kim Delong, of Saint John, NB. The homeowners started out with a sturdy set of oak cabinets, but were ready to bring in the light! Sit back and enjoy this beautiful transformation.
Let’s have a look at the existing kitchen, pre-renovation:
Bob and Kim sat down with Jim at Avondale to map out the new design. The general layout remained very similar with a few updated tweaks:
The area was completely gutted and ready for the new cabinets!
Now, let’s see the final transformation:
So fresh! So much light! Let’s take a look at the makeover of the fridge wall:
Detailed designs of the proposed renovation:
And the stunning after shot!
Let’s go over a few of the accessories included in the kitchen, starting with the high volume garbage can. A handy spot to keep recycling and trash, keeping the garbage bin off of the floor:
Heavy duty soft close slides allow for deep drawers to keep heavy pots and pans:
Cutlery and spice inserts keep everything in order and at hand, making it easy to stay organized:
Pull out shelves above the fridge, standard with an Avondale Kitchen, make reaching those occasionally used items just a bit easier.
Thank you Kim & Bob for choosing Avondale for your Kitchen Makeover! Enjoy your beautiful new kitchen!

When working with uniquely shaped homes, there is no need to worry about how you could possibly do a kitchen renovation. Let the professionals take care of the worry for you!
Today’s makeover comes locally from the Woodstock area, at the home of Jill Reid & Scott Ritcey.
With darker cabinets, and a narrow kitchen, the space seemed small and closed off. Let’s take a look at the designs first. The homeowners sat down with Jim from Avondale to come up with a plan that would open up the space and create a more usable work and storage area. An Avondale designer will come into your home and have designs, quotes and measurements done in 1.5 hours.
Once designs were solidified, RW Burpee contractors got to work preparing the space:
Now let’s take a look at some side by side before and after shots to give you a better idea of the overall renovations.
In the original kitchen, an interior half wall creates a division between the dining room and kitchen. This wall is removed, large windows are added in the dining area as well as above the sink. Pantry cabinets are installs in front of the brick to add storage, and fresh bright cabinets replace the older dark set.
Now we will look from the kitchen, towards the dining room. The space has been reconfigured to add maximum storage and efficiency:
Standing at the stairs, you can see where the wall has been removed to completely open up the kitchen.
The new windows have changed the outside of the home as well!
A big thank you to Jill & Scott for choosing Avondale for your kitchen makeover!

When it comes to adding colour to your kitchen cabinetry, most people shy away from committing to a shade that may not be as conventional as classic white and off white. White cabinets will continue to enjoy a long and popular run, but for those who want to spice up the kitchen with a more subtle approach, adding colour to the island is just the ticket.
We’ve seen this trend crop up in the past few years, and the mixing and matching prevails for a customized impact. So, what are the popular options this year?
Stained Wood: We often see couples choose a light painted cabinet, and a darker stained wood island. By introducing the wood island, a new element is brought into the plan without weighing down the kitchen. The space still looks light, and the richness of the island balances the room.
Avondale Kitchen- St. Andrews NB
Avondale Kitchen
Black/Gray: While gray has peaked in popularity in recent years, it is still bouncing along as a crowd-pleasing pick for a secondary colour. Growing in popularity this year, are black accents. From a design stand point, adding an accent of black, somewhere in the room, whether it be a matte black vase on the counter, or an entire island, anchors the design, and creates a modern palette.
Avondale Kitchen- Rothesay, NB
Avondale Kitchen- Bedell, NB
Navy: Navy and several shades of blue are set to take over the gray trend that we have been enjoying. With navy being a pseudo neutral, the impact is large, but the risk is minimal. A rich, dark hue, like Benjamin Moore’s Hale Navy, will counter-balance a light kitchen and pair well with white or stained cabinets.
